Gettin' Ready

OK, it looks like we're getting closer to having an actual BMX track on Oahu again. I've heard rumors about one in Kalihi as well but I know about one on Sand Island . . . would that be considered Kalihi? Anyway, the ABA is sending over one of their track builders to get the ball rolling on the 20th of next month. They'll need volunteers starting on the 22nd to do raking and basic smoothing of the track. Even if you don't race or have any plans to, I think it would be a good sign of solidarity in the Hawaii BMX community if you came down and helped out. They'll need a bunch of people that can bring shovels and/or rakes and who aren't afraid of a little hardwork. Please comment with your thoughts. Let us know if you're down.

Do you know where on sand island they are building the track? We have some track building experience from South Carolina.

It's all the way at the back by the Canoe launch . . . I think. Click link for map. Enter along Sand Island access RD, after you cross over big bridge make a right on small street just before road curves to the left. Go about 75 yards and make a right like you are going to canoe launch. Track area is ocean side just after you make the right turn. Click on satellite to see real pic, then zoom in to see small street to turn right on, you can also see canoe dock and launch at end of same street as track street

Hey man...I'm thinking you are the same Big Island that crashed at my house in OKC back at the 1st BS contest in '94. I have ran into you a couple times while back home at Matt's warehouse since then, but you probably don't remember me. Great to see you trying to get everybody involved in the Sand Island track. It's gonna take a lot of community support to be a success. I know I'll be there since I'm stationed over on KBay now. Anyways...thanks for doin your part to help ensure the new track works out...take care man!!!
