Stompin' Stu

We are premiering the hot new DVD from Bang Pictures, "Stompin' Stu - The Story Of BMX Legend Stu Thomsen" this Saturday night at BIKEFACTORY Waipio. Bang Pictures produced "Joe Kid On A Stingray" and this one takes a longer look at Stu, one of the OG bad asses. Well, we just showed Joe Kid and I think we all had fun at that showing. Lets make this one even better. As far as I know, this is the first Official premiere in the U.S.Same basic game as last time . . . be here about 8:00pm and I'll start the flic at 8:30. We'll have a grill up and running, so bring a dish with enough to share. The coolers are already here and will be stocked with ice so you can bring beverages. If you're of age, BYOB. We'll also try to have some folding chairs on hand so there's somewhere to sit if you don't bring your own.Again, if time permits we'll play some games like bunny-hops, wheelies, foot-down. I have some small prizes to give out so don't be afraid to bring your bikes. DVD's WILL be available for sale so don't order them online. If you have any questions please let me know. Have you guys made plans yet to attend? We'll have chairs set out and the food will be closer to the roll-up so you can see what you're putting on your plates. If the movie starts at 8:30pm, there will be time for some afterwards fun. I'll have some small giveaways for winners of my various contests. I look forward to seeing you all here.

Hale Nui Tattoos

Just a quick update. I bought the tattoo shop! Hale Nui is the new name, which means "Big House" in Hawaiian. More updates to come...

Sandbox

Here's an email from Jim Drake regarding the BMX side of the Off-road park at Sand Island. If you have the time, please come out and help.

"All BMX enthusiasts,

As promised, I said I would get out a few more details on our BMX racing track building this week. We’re looking for volunteers this weekend to help with the finishing of the track for Sandbox BMX out at Sand Island. Our track builder, Billy Allen, is arriving tomorrow from Colorado and should be complete on two full days of work on the track by this Saturday. We’re asking for volunteers to come out when you can with gloves and tools (shovels, rakes, brooms) to Sand Island starting at 7:30 AM until about 7:45 PM. I realize not everyone can make it, and not everyone has the stamina to last the entire day, but if you can make it at any time during the day, many hands make the work lighter. We’re all volunteers on this project, so anything you can add will be appreciated. The motorcycle guys have been putting in the lion’s share of the heavy equipment work up to this point. Now is our time to show our interest in this project and our ability to “generate a crowd.”

The Island BMX folks will do two shifts each day. Jason Chang will take the morning shift on Saturday, and I will take it on Sunday. Please introduce yourselves if we don’t know you. We’ll try to get as much water as possible out there for you, but since we obviously don’t know how many will show, don’t be afraid to contribute to the cause in this way as well. We’ll also try to set out some food each day around the middle of the day.

On Monday at 10:30 AM, there will be an official ground breaking with Government officials and media. Obviously we’re doing our best to get the word out about the track, and the park in General. Sand Island OHV has done an outstanding job of generating the publicity for this event. As many interested BMX folks that are available Monday would look good for the camera’s, especially since we will be the first track to open up. I expect the Grand Opening to be around October.

Directions to the Park is to take Sand Island Access Road over the bridge and take the first right at the light. You should be able to park in the parking area on the ocean side before the boat ramp. Thanks for your help and hopefully we’ll see you out there! Don’t hesitate to email if you have questions."

Joe Kid

OK, to get everyone hyped up on helping out with building the track at Sand Island, I'll be hosting a showing of Joe Kid On A Stingray at the Waipio BIKEFACTORY this Saturday night, August 15th. This is also to test out my "theater" before our next event. I just confirmed that we get to do a premiere for Stompin' Stu (a documentary about Stu Thompson) on the 28th or 29th of this month. We'll try to have the grill going before 8:00pm and the movie should start at 8:30. I'm hoping that Jason Chang and/or Jim Drake will be there to give us a little bit of a heads up on the Sandbox. We will have coolers with ice for your beverages (BYOB 21 & Over!) If you're going to come out, and you know you should, comment back here and let us know what you're bringing. Bring a dish with some to spare and we can have a nice fun pot luck. If time permits, we can bring out the height poles for some bunnyhops. We might even do drag races and foot down.

I know that not all of our readers are focused on BMX Racing, but I think it's good for us all to come together and some love for the 20's . . . or 24's and 26's for you Cruisers and OM's.

Shoots,

X-Games 15

I forgot my camera... i guess you can just catch all the action on espn. this was the 15th usa x-games i've judged. damn, i feel old. didn't hit up any parties, just chilled with the boys and tattooed at the shamrock social club. watching jamie bestwick on vert and chase hawk and corey bohan in park made the x-games for me. thanks guys. i have one picture, this is page. "sometimes you drink with your friends... sometimes you drink your friends!" was the quote of the night as we put our late, great friend Mark Spencer Udell's ashes in our drinks and tipped it to the heavens and drank up. shoots! big.
